- CSS - City Grrrl (MEN Meets GRRRL Remix)
All the attitude of CSS turned club. As fun as listening to Alala for the first time.
Listen to the streaming Oh Land album on Hype Machine!

What happens when you take a child of Denmark, throw in Dan Carey (his credits include Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip, and CSS), and then add Dave McCracken (Depeche Mode, AFI, Beyonce)?
You get Oh Land.. and a pretty fucking good album.
The opening track on this self titled masterpiece(Perfection) has such a fitting name. Oh Land(Nanna Oland Fabricius) delivers a perfect variety of part soulful, part electro-chic futuristic sounds. The full album drops in a few days on March 15th.
Her smooth, wide-ranging voice has a devastating share of heart, and it carries effortlessly over the effervescent sounds that are a core part of who Oh Land is. On Sun of a Gun, a track I admittedly discovered through a remix by Yuksek, sound effects ranging from airy chimes to finger snaps thirst for your attention. And what makes it all the more classic is the use of her own voice as an instrument. Flawlessly layered background sounds create a deep and engaging mood without coming across as information overload. Welps of her voice, small bits of piano thrown in, and “oooh oooh,” lines that feel like a warm blanket all pile onto the track’s allure.
I could go on, but you should probably just start listening now.
Other highlight tracks:
Voodoo. Why? Gives us a completely different taste of Oh Land. Energetic, beepy, and has a slightly darker undertone (but not enough to ever take away from Oh Land’s beauty).
Wolf & I. Why? Vocals, lyrics, and atmosphere.
Human. Why? The chorus. Listen to how she howls, “Human,” at 1:14. Crazy.
Rainbow. Why? The rhythm of her voice, and the hyper-minimalist verses. “You can make it click, making me pop,” sounds so catchy with a slight R&B feel.
Enjoy. And if you don’t have a Hype Machine account by now, you should probably start working on that. Seriously.
